This porridge contains every grain you could possibly want in one bowl, and all are available in flake form. Just buy them individually, combine them yourself and keep the mix to hand so it’s always ready to go.

From the grocer

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
30g rye flakes
30g spelt flakes
20g wheat flakes
20g barley flakes
20g brown rice flakes
20g medium oatmeal
20g pinhead oatmeal
1.2 litres milk or water, or a mixture of both
soft light brown sugar, to taste
full-cream or low-fat milk, (optional)
60g greek-style yoghurt
60ml runny honey
50g unsalted pistachio nuts, chopped
1 tablespoon sunflower kernels
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 tablespoon white sesame seeds

From the greengrocer

Quantity Ingredient
125g blueberries

Method

  1. Mix all the flakes and oatmeal together and toast in a dry frying pan over a medium heat for 1 minute. Tip into a saucepan and add the milk or water (or a mixture of both). Bring to the boil then reduce the heat and simmer, stirring from time to time, until thick and soft, about 20 minutes. Add sugar to taste. Divide between four bowls and add a drizzle of milk (if using). Top with the yoghurt, honey, blueberries, pistachio nuts, sunflower kernels, chia seeds and sesame seeds.
