Garlic bread is amazing with lasagne, spaghetti bolognese, or shepherd’s pie. It’s comfort food at its absolute best and definitely worth the effort.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
400g butter, softened
8 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
3 tablespoons parsley, chopped
2 french baguettes

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Mix the butter, garlic and parsley together in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper.
  2. Take the baguettes and slice into them at regular intervals along their length. DON’T cut all the way through, however.
  3. Fill each pocket with 1 heaped teaspoon of garlic butter. If there is any left over, spread it over the top of the baguettes.
  4. Wrap each baguette in foil and place in the hot oven for 15–20 minutes.

Optional extras:

  • You could use rosemary or even sage if you want an alternative to parsley.

Serving suggestions:

  • This is an imperative with spaghetti bolognese or lasagne.

Leftovers:

  • Not great, as it does go quite soggy once cooked.
