If you’re having a barbecue, this is a sensational and ridiculously simple dessert. Just whack the whole bananas on the barbecue, slit them open and fill them with a variety of fillings. Delish…

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
10 bananas

Filling options:

Quantity Ingredient
10 tablespoons sugar
300g milk or dark chocolate, broken into pieces

Method

  1. Place the whole bananas on a barbecue that has been used and therefore is just cooling down. You don’t want it red hot or the skin of the bananas will blister.
  2. Turn them over after 5 minutes and the skin should be black. Don’t panic, this is what you’re looking for.
  3. After another 5 minutes both sides should be black and the bananas might be bubbling a little through the skin. Remove them from the barbecue.
  4. Slit the bananas open lengthways and gently pull them open, leaving the skin intact.
  5. Divide the chocolate between the bananas and sprinkle with the sugar. Eat immediately. Amazing!

Optional extras:

  • This is one of those dishes that are very personal; everyone always seems to have their own favourite combinations. You could add marshmallows, 1 tablespoon of cream per banana or 1 tablespoon of custard in each one – it’s up to you.

Serving suggestions:

  • A scoop of ice cream would be amazing with these bananas. Hot and cold together – yum. Don’t hang about though, eat the bananas while they’re still warm.

Leftovers:

  • It would be a worry if there were any left!
