I am officially porridge mad and it’s so, so good for you. It’s probably the breakfast I have the most, as it’s easy and keeps me full all day. Lots of my mates at uni have it for breakfast too and it’s great either on its own or with a spoonful of honey.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
350ml milk
60g porridge oats
1 tablespoon honey

Method

  1. Pour the milk into a saucepan and add the oats.
  2. As the milk starts bubbling after a few minutes, keep stirring and the oats should expand and start absorbing the milk.
  3. It should be ready after 5–6 minutes. If it’s too thick add some more milk and if it’s too runny add more oats and cook for a few minutes longer.
  4. Serve warm in a bowl and trickle over the honey.

Optional extras:

  • You could add a handful of raisins at the beginning, or a tablespoon of sugar for added sweetness; however, the honey is very sweet. Golden syrup would also be delicious instead of honey.

Serving suggestions:

  • Lovely with some fresh fruit and some brown sugar sprinkled on top. Lots of people like their porridge with a spoonful of strawberry jam stirred in.

Leftovers:

  • Not so great when reheated, so try and eat it all.
