Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
500g dried pitted dates
60g ghee
250g walnut pieces
2 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted

Method

  1. Chop the dates roughly and place in a heavy-based saucepan with the ghee. Cook over medium heat, stirring often, until the dates soften and are combined with the ghee.
  2. Spread half the date mixture in a 23 cm square cake tin. Sprinkle the walnut pieces over the dates, pressing them in lightly. Place the remaining date mixture on top, spreading it evenly.
  3. Sprinkle the top with the sesame seeds, pressing them on lightly. Leave until cold, then cut into small squares or diamond shapes.
  4. Store in a sealed container and serve as a sweetmeat.
