Good grief! Brandy and tonic water? What the Dickens?! We created this sweet medicinal drink for Mr Ralph Fiennes, to celebrate his historical film masterpiece The Invisible Woman – it will fulfil your Great Expectations, even in Hard Times or in the Bleakest House…

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
crushed ice
1 part french brandy or cognac
1 part benedictine
1/4 part lemon juice
2 parts tonic water
thickly pared strip lemon zest
paper drinking straw

Method

  1. Half-fill a small metal Julep cup, ‘rocks’ glass or short tumbler with ice.
  2. Pour in the brandy, Benedictine, lemon juice and tonic water and stir well.
  3. Top up your glass with plenty of ice.
  4. Twist the strip of lemon zest over the drink to release the lemon oil, then tuck it into the ice and add a straw.
