Our English hero Sherlock Holmes (the London dry gin) sets out to the Alps (the fresh Lillet) to battle his nemesis Moriarty at a famous waterfall; with spray on their faces, they plunge to the rocks below (the earthy tone of gentian root in Suze). This ‘white negroni’ uses Lillet, with its pronounced citrus notes, instead of sweet vermouth, and Suze rather than Campari as the bitter element.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1 part suze
1 part london dry gin
1 part lillet blanc or any sweet white vermouth
dash lemon juice
ice cubes
lemon slices

Method

  1. Pour the Suze, gin, Lillet and lemon juice into a small tumbler or ‘rocks’ glass half-filled with ice and stir well.
  2. Top up with more ice and garnish with several half-moon-shaped slices of lemon.

Note

  • Beware – this is a strong drink. We like to leave it to cool and come together in the glass for a minute or two before drinking. If it’s still too strong for your taste, a dash of soda or sparkling water is the answer.
