Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
125g butter or margarine
4 tablespoons caster sugar
1 teaspoon natural vanilla extract
150g plain flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
blanched almond halves, to decorate
or glace cherries, to decorate

Method

  1. Melt butter or margarine; cook until it browns slightly. Cool over cold water, then add sugar and cream the mixture until light. Beat in vanilla. Gradually work in flour sifted with baking powder.
  2. Using floured hands, shape into small balls and flatten them slightly. Top each with almond or cherry. Place on lightly greased baking tray. Bake in a preheated moderately hot oven (190°C) for 12–15 minutes or until crisp and golden.
