Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
600g turnips or swedes, cooked and diced
90g butter
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
freshly ground black pepper
80g fresh breadcrumbs
120g gruyere cheese, diced

Method

  1. Mash the turnips or swedes and combine with 60 g butter, the sugar, salt, pepper, 60 g breadcrumbs and the cheese. Turn mixture into a buttered 1 litre ovenproof dish, top with remaining breadcrumbs and pour over remaining butter, melted.
  2. Bake in a preheated moderate oven (180°C) for about 20 minutes or until top is browned.
