When you’ve got a young child, snack time and lunchtime often occur outdoors, so it’s handy to have some meals up your sleeve that you can pop into a lunchbox as you run out the door. Even when you’re home, it’s good to have options that are easy, casual and that can be eaten with fingers. Better still, it’s great if you can enjoy them as much as your child does. And that’s what this chapter is all about – delicious snacks and lunch for all age groups – because like me, I’m guessing you don’t have time to be preparing two meals in the middle of your busy day.

One thing to be aware of is that, because children have such little appetites, it’s easy for them to fill up on snacks and then skip a main meal. This is why you need to time snacks carefully, well before your child’s next meal. Ideally, snacks should also be as healthy as the rest of your child’s day, and the recipes in this chapter have been designed with that in mind. That way, if she does end up eating less later on, it’s not a big deal.
