One of the first things on my mind when I wake up in the morning is, ‘Which juice am I going to make?’. Then, when it comes to morning tea, or after a workout, I wonder what smoothie to make. If I begin to feel run down, sluggish or lethargic I go straight into the kitchen to hydrate myself with water, fresh juice, a smoothie or a herbal tea.
Drinking and staying hydrated is always my first priority when it comes to my health – drinking enough liquid to ensure my body and mind are working the way they should, absorbing nutrients I wouldn’t be able to get from food.
I have never been an alcohol drinker. At parties in high school I was normally there with a 6-pack of juice boxes in my hand. I definitely went through a very short-lived teenage partying stage though. Even then I knew that the next day the only thing that would make me feel better was to get a juice in me, to give me the most nutrients as quickly as possible to get me feeling normal again!
I have also included some non-alcoholic cocktails, as maybe you’re like me and prefer the drink in your hand to not be alcoholic, but you still want something delicious.
Drinking is also a way of relaxing, even just for 5 minutes; sitting down with a cup of tea and rebooting the mind. It’s another form of meditation and a great excuse to take a load off, exhale and re-energise.
