I would like to dedicate these recipes to my Vovo Sara (my mother’s mum). She is a great cook and most of her recipes have their origins in Poland, where she was born. She learnt Brazilian recipes from her neighbour in Rio! She turned 90 this year and she has shown me how food can transmit tradition and cure homesickness—even when you don’t know how to cook!

Picanha is a Brazilian premium beef cut that’s very tender and tasty! You can find it at Hispanic butchers.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1.5 kg piece picanha
rock salt, for seasoning

Method

  1. Season the meat with rock salt just before cooking. You can barbecue the picanha or cook it in the oven. In the barbecue cook the picanha on low–medium heat, or in the oven at 180°C, cook for 40 minutes to medium–rare.
