Method

  1. Heat the oven to 200°C. Cut 1 large or 2 medium day-old baguettes or French sticks in thick diagonal slices without cutting right through the loaf (i.e. leave it attached at the base). Mash 125g soft butter with a wooden spoon until creamy then add 4 cloves of crushed garlic, 4 tablespoons of parsley and season with salt and pepper. Spread the butter generously on either side of the cuts you have made. Wrap the bread in foil and bake for 10 minutes. Loosen the foil and replace in the oven for another 5 minutes to brown and crisp the top.
