This is a popular salad in many Indian restaurants. Sometimes it’s on the menu but often it’s simply used to garnish dishes. It makes a nice side dish as it doesn’t compete with the other dishes served. It is colourful and crisp, and really helps to bring a meal together.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1 red onion, very finely diced
1 cucumber, very finely diced
1-2 tomatoes, very finely diced
1 teaspoon olive or vegetable oil
1 lemon, juiced
3 tablespoons finely chopped fresh coriander
1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin seeds
salt and freshy ground pepper

Method

  1. Mix the onion, cucumber and tomatoes together in a large bowl. Add the oil, lemon juice, chopped coriander, cumin seeds and some salt and pepper to taste. Chill in the fridge for about 30 minutes before serving.
