You can see this being sold in almost every main street of every major city in India. Fresh limewaters are very popular like lassi but are lighter and more refreshing. They replace lost fluids in hot summers and help to control dehydration and nausea brought about by extreme heat. In India we use black rock salt – kala namak – as it is rich in therapeutic minerals. It has a distinctive sulphurous flavour – try it if you can find it!

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1-2 limes, juiced
2-3 tablespoons caster sugar
pinch salt
pinch ground cumin, (optional)
1 tablespoon water
still, sparkling or soda water, chilled

Method

  1. Pour the lime juice into a glass.
  2. Add the sugar, salt, cumin, if using, and the tablespoon of water. Stir well until the sugar and salt have dissolved.
  3. Top up with chilled still, sparkling or soda water. Stir and serve chilled.
