This dish shows the Muslim influence in Sri Lankan sweets and drinks. You can buy basil seeds in Asian grocery shops, but you can also make this drink without them.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
1 teaspoon basil seeds, (optional)
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon rose syrup
2 cups milk
1 scoop vanilla ice cream

Method

  1. Soak basil seeds in water until needed. When ready to make drink, drain seeds.
  2. In a tall glass mix the rose essence, milk and basil seeds. Stir well, add ice cream and serve with a long spoon and a big straw.

Variation

  • In Sri Lanka people make a green jelly, cut it into 5 mm cubes and add a tablespoon of green jelly cubes to the drink.
