I’m convinced that this drink must have been a mistake when it was first invented. I think somebody was trying to make a Moscow Mule with dry ginger ale and went for the ruby grapefruit instead, realised their mistake and finished it with dry. Then, in the proud bartending tradition of drinking one’s mistakes, discovered what a brilliant drink it is. The contrasting sweet, sour, bitter, hot and pungent flavours would make a Thai chef happy.

Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
30ml Chilli vodka
1/4 lime, cut into 2 wedges
60ml pink grapefruit juice
60ml dry ginger ale

Method

  1. Take a 295 ml highball glass and fill it with ice. Add the chilli vodka, then squeeze in the lime juice and drop the wedges into the glass. Pour in enough grapefruit juice to three-quarters fill the glass, then top it up with dry ginger ale and serve.
