Light, refreshing and pulling flavour punches from all kinds of unexpected quarters, Asian sweets are our preferred type of dessert. They’re fragranced with pandan, spiked with ginger, made sticky with palm sugar (jaggery) and loaded with textural interest from mung beans, grated coconut, sesame seeds and more. They’re not strictly puddings, though, as sweet treats in Asia are eaten throughout the day as pick-me-up snacks. Sugar banana cake or coconut pandan pancakes could just as easily be served at breakfast so eat them, and the rest of these dishes, whenever the mood takes you!
